The National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, provides many free educational programs for Lewis County Families.

Family-to-Family is one of these programs. This free 12-session program serves family, significant others and friends of people who live with mental illnesses. Family-to-Family is taught by trained family members who have been there. The course includes presentations, discussions and interactive exercises in a group setting.

Among other things, you’ll learn about:

  • Crisis management
  • Problem solving
  • Effective communication
  • Self-care
  • Stress management
  • Developing confidence
  • Increasing stamina
  • Providing support with compassion
  • Finding and using local supports and services
  • Up-to-date information on mental health conditions
  • Current treatments, including therapies, medications and side effects
  • The impact of mental illness on the whole family
