Wahkiakum Health & Human Services coordinate many essential services for the tiny southwestern county of Wahkiakum.

Food

Women, Infant and Children (WIC) food vouchers are provided to income-eligible women, infants and children under the age of 5. This program provides vouchers for nutritious food, including fresh fruits, vegetables, cereals and more. It also provides nutrition counseling with a certified nutritionist.

Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) provides support and education to families with infants and children under age 18 who have or are at-risk for chronic physical, developmental, behavioral or emotional conditions.

Housing

Rent & deposit assistance may be available, depending on funding. Qualifying households can receive up to 1 YEAR of rental assistance and/or assistance with move-in costs. Eligibility depends on need, income and availability of funds.

Emergency shelter and transitional housing is available for up to 30 days.

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides utility assistance to help make heating more affordable. This program may also help prevent shut-offs in winter time.

Utility assistance is available once per calendar year. Assistance with wood or propane may also be available. Assistance may be limited or unavailable, depending on funding.

Health Services

A 24/7 Mental Health Crisis Service Line is available at all times by calling (800) 635-5989. The line is staffed by mental health professionals.

Mental health services, including individual and family counseling, are available to those who need it. An ombudsperson is available to those who have a concern or need to file a grievance regarding their mental health services.

Drug and Alcohol recovery services, including assessment and treatment, are also available. Housing support, mental health support, resident treatment and inpatient referrals may also be provided.

Immunization Clinics provide a variety of vaccines to anyone who qualifies. There is a small fee for this service, which may be covered by insurance. Recommended childhood immunizations are provided FREE for children age 18 and under.

Family planning services, including pregnancy testing, pregnancy prevention, birth control, counseling, STD screenings, HIV testing and more may be available.

Lice head checks are available by request. This agency can also provide information on treating an individual and household. Treatment options, including chemical alternatives, can be discussed.

Water testing is available by request. Bring a water sample and $35. The water sample must be tested within 30 hours of collection. Samples must arrive before 11am on Mondays or Wednesdays to be tested.

TB Testing is available to those who request it.

Transportation

Reserve-a-Ride Transportation is available to certain eligible Wahkiakum residents. To qualify, you must be a disabled, low-income or senior resident of Wahkiakum County who is unable to use transit. The Reserve-a-Ride system provides transportation to life-sustaining medical appointments, general medical appointments and sometimes for group trips to shopping centers, recreational activities and meal sites. You’ll need to call at least two business days before the appointment to schedule. Call (800) 752-9422 and select option 4.

 Medical Transportation Brokerage is also available to Medicaid recipients who need help getting to Medicaid-covered medical appointment. Call 7-14 days in advance to schedule a ride. Call (800) 752-9422 and select option 2.

Employment Services

Food Worker Cards are available from this agency. Take the class and testing on-site or online.

Vocational rehabilitation services are available to adults (21+) with developmental disabilities.

Holiday Gifts

The STAR Program provides income-eligible families with holiday gifts for their children. This program is for Wahkiakum County residents and/or those who go to school in Cathlamet or Naselle. Applications are available in the late fall. Call (360) 431-5232 for more information.
