The Lewis County Animal Shelter takes unwanted or stray dogs and cats from locations around Lewis County. It also provides information about financial assistance for spay/neuter services.

Stray animals are returned to an owner or adopted out if not claimed during the legal hold period. Adoption fees include mandatory spay/neuter services and vaccinations. Lewis County residents receive $5 off the adoption fees.

The shelter offers a low-cost disposal service for deceased cats and dogs, although the shelter will not pick them up. You must take the deceased animal to the shelter for this service.
